Using plain, straightforward language is generally the best way to write copy – particularly on the web where your audience is likely to be hurried, international and keen to receive information.

There are two rival businesses that promote the use of understandable language: The Plain English Campaign and the Plain Language Commission. I belong to neither. While I think it’s great that organisations like these exist, I don’t feel it’s necessary to pay them to validate my writing.
